Event Safety

Safety is
non-negotiable.

Event management is a multifaceted enterprise where safety remains critical. Appointing a safety officer is a legal requirement — and failure to manage safety properly carries grave repercussions for the event and its organisers.

Event Safety

The legal position

Section 4(9), Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act 2/2010

For an event categorised as low risk, the event organiser must ensure the following:

A safety officer is appointed
A written safety plan is prepared covering safety, security and crowd management measures
Motor vehicle parking arrangements are planned and documented
Emergency medical measures, including participant medical measures under the National Health Act
All of the above measures are physically put in place
The local police station is informed of the event details prior to the event
